3D Design graduates are highly valued in the design, production and manufacturing sectors, particularly where products, furniture, lighting fixtures, packaging, exhibitions and trade shows, film and television modelling and set design, signage and environmental graphics are required.

The field of Three Dimensional Design involves creating beautiful, practical and socially acceptable objects and the communication of ideas to clients and other parties in a manner that is easily understood and will evolve with time.

These elements will evolve over your degree years with no requirements for high initial skills levels.

An inquiring mind and an interest in shaping the future will see you as a trendsetter rather than a follower!

Overall an abiding love of design with an enthusiasm to match will assist you in achieving an exciting ever-changing challenge and an interesting career pathway.

Why choose this major?

It will enable you to take advantage of professional creative opportunities, not only on the Gold Coast, but nationally and internationally. It offers you rich opportunities to broaden and improve your employment prospects, through cross-study and specialisation in digital design, 3-dimensional design, ePhotojournalism, fine art and graphic design.

You have the flexibility to undertake a studio major within the degree and to choose an elective major or specialisation from another area of the degree or from other schools or faculties—thereby completing a double major degree.

During Year 1, you’ll study core courses which address basic skills and knowledge, as well as undertaking a Studio Foundation component in which you’ll become competent in the basic skill of your studio major—in this case, 3D Design.

Continuing through Years 2 and 3, you’ll become professionally competent in your studio major area, as well as having the flexibility to choose an elective major. By doing so, you’ll complete a double major, broadening your experience. The Bachelor of Digital Media award studio majors include:

Once you’ve been awarded the Bachelor of Digital Media, you will then have the option of applying to do a further year of study in the Honours Program.
