Gold Coast visual artist Abbey McCulloch finds the subtropical city the perfect place to craft her colourful expressions of the female form.

Abbey McCulloch is perhaps best known for her illustrations for publications including frankie magazine. A shy child, she began painting and drawing as a way to divert attention away from herself.

Art Nation spoke to the artist at her recent exhibition The Thunderheads at HelenGory Galerie.
