Arts, Education and Law Alumni Awards

The Arts, Education and Law Group Alumni Awards aim to recognise the outstanding achievements and successes of our alumni.

The recipients of the awards will be honoured at our awards night later in 2012. There are eight Alumnus of the Year Award recipients, one for each AEL element in the Group.

  • Griffith Law School
  • Queensland College of Art
  • Griffith Film School
  • Queensland Conservatorium of Music
  • School of Criminology and Criminal Justice
  • School of Education and Professional Studies
  • School of Humanities
  • School of Languages and Linguistics

There will be one overall Alumnus of the Year Award selected from these eight recipients. One Young Alumnus of the Year Award will also be selected, recognising our young alumni making significant contributions and success in their chosen industry/profession.

Congratulations to our AEL Alumnus of the Year , Professor Greg Leigh, and AEL Young Alumnus of the Year, Ms Kate van Doore, and to all the winners and finalists.

Nomination guidelines

Nominations can be made by members of the Arts, Education and Law Group or the wider community. Self nominations are also encouraged. Please ensure to follow these steps:

Selection criteria

To be eligible for the awards, the nominator will need to provide evidence of the following for each award.

Alumnus of the Year Award

Nominators must ensure that nominees comply with the eligibility criteria

  • Sustained outstanding contribution to the industry/profession, and
  • Substantial contribution to the community at the local, state, national or international levels. This may be as part of employment in the chosen profession, or voluntary or charity work.

Young Alumnus of the Year Award

For the Young Alumnus of the Year Award nominees must be under thirty-five (35) years old, with at least three (3) years work experience. Nominators must ensure that nominees comply with the eligibility criteria:

  • Sustained outstanding contribution to the industry/profession, and
  • Substantial contribution to the community at the local, state, national or international levels. This may be as part of employment in the chosen profession, or voluntary or charity work.

All alumni of the AEL Group and its predecessor faculties and elements are eligible for these awards. Nominees need not be working in the discipline from which they graduated. Alumni, Griffith University staff, and members of the community are invited to nominate a candidate to receive these awards. Self nominations are also encouraged.

In order to best assist the judging panel, nominators will be asked to provide:

  • Written statements of support addressing the selection criteria as outlined in the Terms and Conditions
  • The nominee’s most recent curriculum vitae
  • Other supporting documents and information (newspaper articles, awards, etcetera).

Selection process

Once the closing date for nominations has passed, nominees will be assessed by the judging panel, who will then select the winners of the Alumnus of the Year and Young Alumnus of the year.

Judging

The judging panel assesses nominations and meets in September to select the award recipients. The panel consists of:

  • Pro Vice Chancellor (AEL)
  • Dean Academic (AEL)
  • Development and Alumni representative
  • Two externals to include representation from other academic groups
